Nov 26, 2024, Workshop II: Careers in IT Support
On November 26, 2024, Circuit Revival conducted our second workshop for our Algoma University students featuring Mr. Rasheed Boustani, Manager of IT services Operations, Algoma University and his colleague Mr. Emmanuel Akpan, Senior support specialist, Algoma University. Mr. Rasheed and Mr. Emmanuel brought their extensive experience in IT and provided valuable insights into the world of IT support. Participants learned about the most frequent IT issues encountered at an organization, giving them a realistic view of the challenges they might face in an IT support role. The workshop shed lights onto the importance of industry-recognized certifications such as CompTIA+, ITIL, Security+ and Network+, which could significantly boost one’s career prospects in the IT field.
One of the highlights of the event was exploration of various career paths within IT support services. Participants gained valuable knowledge and practical tips on gaining a competitive edge over others in this dynamic field. Mr. Emmanuel’s emphasis on the importance of continuous learning and staying updated with the latest technology was one of the most significant takeaways for participants in the workshop. Mr. Rasheed implemented an innovative approach to learning where he simulated interview scenarios focused on technical problem-solving during QnA. Even though we couldn’t maintain the hands-on experience; as it was impossible to create those scenarios in an instant, we piqued their attention and interest through realistic mock interview sessions with hypothetical technical problems with hardware and software. This innovative method not only enhanced their problem-solving skills but also prepared them for future job interviews in the IT support field.
Therefore, this face-to-face interactions with Mr. Rasheed Boustani and Mr. Emmanuel Akpan, the pioneers of IT Support at Algoma U gave participants the chance to ask questions and gain firsthand insights into the ever evolving field of Information Technology.
